Ganglion and Soft Tissue Tumors

Ganglion and Soft Tissue Tumors

A ganglion is a round, sac-like swelling or a fluid-filled lump under the skin near your foot and ankle joint. It can become bigger or smaller over time and may be visible or not, especially if it is small. Soft tissue tumors are lumps beneath the skin of your foot and ankle that occur due to the overgrowth of tissue (fat cells) within or between the muscles, tendons, nerves or blood vessels.

PRP Injections (Platelet Rich Plasma)

Our blood consists of a liquid component known as plasma. It also consists of three main solid components which include the red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and platelets. Platelets play an important role in forming blood clots. They also consist of special proteins, known as growth factors, which help with our body’s healing process.

Tendon Transfer

Tendon Transfer

In a tendon transfer procedure, a healthy tendon is transferred to replace the damaged tendon and restore the normal movement of the foot. Tendon transfer surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made along the foot and the damaged tendon is exposed and removed.

Tendoscopy

Tendoscopy

Tendoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that enables your orthopedic surgeon to view the tendon from within its sheath to evaluate and treat tendon problems in the foot and ankle. Tendoscopy is similar to arthroscopy in which a flexible fibreoptic instrument with a light and video camera on the end and special instruments are inserted through small incisions along the tendon.

Cyst Removal

Cyst Removal

A cyst is a small irregular, non-cancerous sac-like structure filled with fluid or pus. It may be found in any part of the body including the foot. Cysts are caused due to infection, trauma, or blocked oil glands. They usually grow slowly and have a smooth surface. Cysts can be of varying sizes and appear as a bump on your skin or feel like a lump growing under the skin.

Venous Stasis

Venous Stasis

Venous stasis is a condition in which the rate of blood flow in the veins reduces. This can cause blood to pool in the veins of the lower limbs and can lead to swelling and discoloration. As pressure builds up, fluid from the blood vessels may enter the tissues causing irritation and break down with ulcer formation. Venous stasis is more common in those above the age of 50 and usually affects women.

Fungal Nails

Fungal Nails

Fungal infections are common in nails and occur most often in toenails. Termed as onychomycosis, nail fungus affects the keratin, the hard material that makes up the nail and can include the entire nail or a portion of the nail, along with the nail root, plate or bed. It gradually leads to thickening, distortion, and discoloration of the nails.
