What is chronic lateral ankle pain and chronic ankle instability?
This is pain and instability that occurs on the outside of the ankle which develops after injuries such as ankle sprain.
Symptoms include
- Pain usually on the outside of the ankle
- Difficulty walking and playing sports, Difficulty walking on uneven surfaces
- Dull aches, swelling, tenderness, stiffness
- Repeat ankle sprains
Your final diagnosis will determine which treatment option is best for you. Non surgical treatments include physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, bracing and injections. Dr. Pajouh may recommend surgical treatment options which may include ankle arthroscopy, reconstruction of the ligaments, repair of tendons and debridement of the ankle joint and surfaces.
